James Lisney: poèmes, mélodies et danses

Pianist James Lisney returns to St George’s Bristol with a garland of Romantic piano music by Schubert, Liszt, Chopin and Rachmaninoff – pieces shaped by poetry, song and the spirit of dance.

‘This is a wonderfully rich programme,’ says James. ‘It’s music that shows the piano at its most romantic, and it reminds me how lucky I am to have this instrument in my life. I hope audiences will enjoy Liszt’s spiritual transcendence and sense of grace; Schubert’s trademark swings between melancholy and rustic joy; Chopin’s sheer genius for spinning endless melodies and heroic bravura within classical forms; and Rachmaninoff’s bittersweet nostalgia and witty virtuosity.’
